This photograph shows examples of the protective clothing worn by maintenance workers at Britain's Windscale atom factory. the men are equipped with walkie-talkie sets so that they can give immediate warning of any incident within the enclosed radioactive areas.
Valuable experience is being gained in dealing with radioactivity by the use of special types of protective clothing. with the precautions being taken to protect the health of workers in Britain's atomic factories, maintenance work can now be carried out which, in the early stages of plutonium production, was thought to be completely impossible.
