Estonia Permanent Delegation to the League of Nations
The Republic of Estonia became a member of the League of Nations in 1921.
The Permanent Delegation to the League of Nations was formed in February 1931. The permanent delegate was at the same time the head of a legation (Rome and Bern, later London and Bern). The office in Geneva was directed by a councillor (Johannes Kôdar).
Selter, Karl (1898-1958)
Estonian politician.
- 1933-1938 Minister of Finances;
- 1938-1939 Foreign Affairs Minister;
- 1939-1940 Delegate to the League of Nations.
Karl Selter was the last Estonian representative to the League of Nations (appointed in 1939). He stayed in Geneva during World War II and carried on his activities there, bearing the title of a permanent representative of Estonia. Unfortunately the war made his communication with other Estonian exile-diplomats rather random. It seems Selter was the least active of the Baltic representatives.
