An international concert by noted artists was held in the General Assembly Hall to mark the seventeenth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. President of the General Assembly, Amintore Fanfani, delivered a Human Rights Day address,and the concert was broadcast throughout the United Sates and overseas. The programme included Sidney Poitier, film star and winner of the 1964 Academy Award as best actor; Manitas de Plata regarded as the world's foremost Flamenco guitarist; Robert Merrill, leading baritone of the Metropolitan Opera; and two dance troupes - The Kandyan dancers of Ceylon and the Sahara Fancers of Africa.
