At its sixth session ECOSOC requested the Secretary-General to study the question whether and to what extent the treaties and declarations of 1919 and thereafter concerning minorities should be regarded as being still in force. These records contain correspondence and comments on the resultant report as prepared by the Division of Human Rights. They do not contain a copy of the report.

The records include a 1951 Statement on Race prepared by a committee of physical anthropologists and biologists at UNESCO.

Records include memoranda outlining the revision, and eventual comments and critique, of the study on the validity of minorities treaties, which was finally completed by the Division of Human Rights and submitted to the Commission at its seventh session as "Legal Validity of the Undertakings concerning Minorities".

These records include responses from the governments of Ceylon, Norway, Iceland, Luxembourg, El Salvador, Ireland, Philippines, the United States, Belgium, Jordan, Switzerland, Hungary, Saudi Arabia, India, the Netherlands, Argentina, Colombia, and the Soviet Union to the request of the Secretary-General for information relating to prevention of discrimination and the protection of minorities (ECOSOC 303F (XI)).

Records contain correspondence with regard to a study on the minorities problem in India and Pakistan conducted by the Division of Human Rights for the Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities. They do not include the study.
