Open to young people 18 years old and under, national competitions were held in 11 countries. The theme was "Human Rights", 1958 being the tenth anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rigts. Here, at the conclusion of a briefing at which he was Quest Speaker earlier today, Ambassador R.S.S. Gunewardewe (centre), Permanent representative of Ceylon to the UN and Chairman of the Human Rights Commission, points to some of the posters entered in the competition. Behind him is Mr. John P. Humphrey, Director of the UN Division of Human Rights. Looking on are several representatives of non-governmental organizations.
