Scope and content
In addition to earning a significant amount of foreign exchange, the Indian wool industry helps reduce the money that flows out of the country for wool-related imports. To save sheep from deadly lungworm disease the Indian Government with help from the International Atomic energy Agency (IAEA) under the UN Development Programme (UNDP) has established an Irradiated Vaccine production Centre in Srinagar, Kashmir. Experiments have shown that the vaccinated sheep not only put on double their weight but also develop thicker coats.
