Scope and content
An International Atomic energy Agency expert, Mr. Norman Veall (United Kingdom), has been working in bangkok helping Thai medical research teams establish procedures in the use of radioisotopes and radioactives tracer techniques. the request for an expert was initiated by the Thai Atomic Energy Commission for Peace through the UN technical Assistance Board to the IAEA.
This photograph shows Dr. romsai Suvanik of the Department of Radiology, Siriraj Hospital, injecting radioactive carbon-labelled amino acids, supplied by the U.K. Atomic energy Authority, into a piece of meat. this radio-active meat will be fed to a snake as part of a pilot experiment in which the radio-activity count of extracted snake venom will later be checked. Radioactive tracers have proved very valuable in determining both structure and metabolism of biologically important substances such as venoms, drugs, hormones, etc.
