Scope and content

The Norwegian-Dutch Joint Establishment for Nuclear Energy Research (JENER) was founded in 1951 at Kjeller, near Oslo. Its primary purpose, according to its Director, Dr. Gunnar Randers, is to determine whether heavy-water reactors are technically sound for power production. In addition to intensive research activities, JENNER produces radio-active isotopes for medical and research purposes at home and throughout Scandinavia and other part of Europe. Scientists from countries such as Argentina, India, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States and Yugoslavia have also been sent for training at JENNER's international reactor school.

Isotopes from Kjeller are used for research purposes at the Norwegian School of Agriculture. Here, the Research Director, Mr. Kjell Stenberg, measures the penetration of impreganting solutions in wooden materials.
