Opium Traffic in China - British Foreign Office (London) - States that the British Government are in receipt of reliable reports to the effect that the authorities at Foochow are compelling the people of the neighbouring districts to plant the opium poppy with the immediate object of raising revenue for millitary purposes by means of special taxes levied on the poppy fields and the opium produced. A similar state of affairs is reported from the Provinces of Honan and Shensi.
