Scope and content
Some fifty-five governments and nine United Nations agencies have, so far, accepted invitations to participate in the second UN International conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic energy which is scheduled to convene in Geneva from 1 to 13 September next. One of the main topics to be examined by the Conference is the problem of how to duplicate the energy source of the stars -nuclear fusion- and put it to work on earth.
Seen here as they conferred at U.N. Headquarters earlier today are (seaded, from left to right) Mr. Homi N. Sethna (India), Deputy Secretary-General of the Conference; Dr. Sigvard Eklund (Sweden), Secretary-General of the Conference; and Dr. Ivan Ulehla (Czechoslovakia), Special Assistant to Dr. Eklund. Standing at left is Mr. John H. Martens (United States), Chief Editor of the conference Proceedings and, at right, Mr. Brian Urquhart, Executive Assistant to the conference secretary-General.
