Professor Sigvard Arne Eklund, Director of Research of the Swedish Atomic energy Company, Stockholm, whose appointment as Conference Secretary-General of the second International conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic energy was announced by UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold on 10 October 1957.
The conference will be held under United Nations auspices in Geneva, Switzerland, from 1-13 September 1958.
A graduate of Uppsala University (Doctor of Science, 1946), Professor Eklund has served as Assistant Professor at the Stockholm Institute of Technology since 1946. He was engaged in research work on nuclear physics at the Research Institute of the Royal Academy of Science (Sweden) from 1937 to 1945, and at the Research Institute of National Defence, from 1945 to 1950. Since 1950, Professor Eklund has served as Director of Research of the Swedish Atomic Energy Company, a joint enterprise of the Swedish Government and private industry. He is a member of the Swedish National Committee for Physics, a member of the Royal academy of Engineering Science, and the author of a number of scientific publications on nuclear physics.
