The records were in the possession of R.C. Dearle's grandson Rev. Paul Ross. A large portion of the collection including files pertaining to correspondence , wartime research and training, minutes, photographs, and an obituary were donated to Library and Archives Canada (LAC) by Rev. Ross and Prof. R.L. Allen in the mid 1970s. Later, in 2007, Rev. Paul Ross donated records including Dearle's student records, collection of writings and other titles, and a career scrapbook to Western and expressed desire to have the records previously donated to LAC returned to Western. In 2019 the records from LAC were transferred to Western. As of 2026 the records have been combined into one fonds.

Collection consists of general correspondence of Professor Dearle as Head of the Physics Department at the University of Western Ontario, 1915-1949, 1957, 1966; correspondence with senior staff of the University of Western Ontario, 1919-1947; wartime research and training, 1939-1943, n.d.; minutes, faculty of the University College of Arts, 1925-1945; collection of writings and other titles; student records, 1916; and and obituary of Raymond Compton Dearle that was added to the fonds after the creators death, 1971. The fonds also contains photographs of radio technicians' courses at University of Western Ontario, London, Ont., 1941-1942; and radio physics class, 1949; and photographs of Raymond Compton Dearle with family; and items of honors and awards.
