Biographical history
Richard Nash Hourde was born in London, Ontario to Edith Warrine Nash and Wilbert Hourde on May 14, 1915. The family moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1920, however, Hourde spent much of his adolescence with his maternal grandmother in London. Although relatively inexperienced, Hourde was commissioned as a photographer by "The Beaver" magazine in 1936. He also contributed written content. During the summer of 1936, he travelled from Winnipeg to Edmonton, then along the Mackenzie River and to Tuktoyaktuk. He returned home in the fall of 1936. Hourde became ill with pneumonia while scouting locations in Northern Ontario and on March 3, 1937 at the age of 21, he passed away at Kapuskasing Hospital.

Scope and content
Fonds consists of digitized photographic negatives created by Richard Hourde and given to his colleague and friend Ron Nelson. Most of the negatives are of places and people in and around London, Ontario, but many of them are of places and people in northern Ontario, specifically Hudson's Bay Company and Revillon Freres properties, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police post, a dog sled trip, vessels in dry dock, railway scenes in and around Moosonee and Moose Factory, Ontario.
