The records consist of correspondence with UNESCO with regard to the coordination of efforts on the draft instruments on Discrimination in Education. At the 11th session of the Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities in 1959 resolution E took note of the decision by UNESCO to take responsibility for the drafting of recommendations to Member States and an international convention on the various aspects of discrimination in education. The Division wished to maintain the precedent established in the case of the ILO instruments on discrimination in employment and occupation - namely that the Sub-Commission should examine and advise on any proposed international instruments on discrimination in education. The Sub-Commission had in fact prepared the initial study on the subject.
The file includes an analysis of replies from Member States regarding the drafting of recommendations and an international Covenant, prepared by UNESCO.
