The records consist of correspondence regarding the notification by the Holy See relating to the ratification of the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees in 1956. At the time of ratification, the Holy See had opted to apply the Convention to "events occurring in Europe before 1 January 1951". In 11.1961, the Holy See extended its obligations under the treaty, pursuant to Section B (2) of article 1 of the Convention, that is to say to "events occurring in Europe or elsewhere before 1 January 1951".
