            The Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities held its forty-third session in Geneva form 5 to 30 August. During the session, the Sub-Commission considered and recommended measures for United Nations action in many human rights fields. These included the elimination of racial and religious discrimination; the administration of justice nad the human rights of detainees; the realization of economic, social and cultural rights; and discrimination against indigenous peoples.

            The UN Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities initiates or undertakes world-wide studies on specific aspects of human rights. Now meeting at UN headquarters, the 12 experts are studying at their eleventh annual session ways of preventing discrimination in religious and political rights and in employment.
