The Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities of the UN Commission on Human Rigts today opened its twentieth session at the Palais des Nations, Geneva. The Sub-Commission elected Pierre Juvigny (France), Chairman of the current session and Mr. N. Pai (India) and Mrs. Phoebe Asiyo (Kenya) Vice-Chairman and Rapporteur respectively. The Sub-Commission also adopted a 13-point agenda. Experts from eighteen countries, participating in their personal capacities are attending the present session, which is expected to last for two weeks. Also present are the representatives and observers of a number of UN specialized agencies, inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations.

After several years of preliminary work, he is now submitting his final report to this session of the Sub-Commission. At yesterday's opening meeting, Dr. Krishnaswami was also elected Vice-Chairman of the session.
