The Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor at Windscale, represents a big advance in the development of the gas-cooled graphite moderated reactor. Uranium oxide fuel and stainless steel cans are used to permit operation at a gas outlet temperature over 200°C higher than at Calder Hall.
