            Ecuador has ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. Its instrument of ratification was presented by Miguel A. Albornoz (left), Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the UN, to Erik Suy (right), Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs, on 9 November. The six-part, 30-paragraph instrument was adopted on 18 December 1979 by the General Assembly and came into force on 3 September 1981. The 30 articles of the Convention cover measures to be taken by States parties to eliminate discrimination against women in various fields, including political and public life, the right to nationality, education, employment, health and marriage and the family. Rights of rural women are given special attention, as are the elimination of stereotypes and the suppression of prostitution.
            Also present at today's presentationceremony was Guillermo Camacho, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of Ecuador to the UN.

            The German Democratic Republic today signed the Convention on Elimination of Al lForms of Discrimination Against Women, which was opened for signature at UN Headquarters on the 1 March. The General-Assembly, through resolution 34/180 adopted the Convention on 18 December 1979 and asked the Secretary-General to present its text to the 1980 World Conference on the United Nations Decade for Women to be held in Copenhagen from 14 to 30 July.

            The Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women was signed today by the Government of Hungarian People's Republic. Its 30 articles cover measures to be taken by States parties to eliminate discrimination in various fields including political and public life, the right to nationality, education, employment, health and marriage, and the family. Rights or rural Women are given special attention , as are the elimination of stereotypes and the suppression of prostitution. The Secretary-General has been asked by the Assembly to present the text of the Convention to the 1980 World Conference on the United Nations Decade for Women, to be held in Copenhagen from 14 to 30 July, for its information.
