    Scope and content

The sub-series consists of records concerning the governance of Labatt Breweries of British Columbia Limited and the earlier companies from which it was formed. The process began on June 8, 1928, when Coast Breweries Limited incorporated under federal letters patent. This company bought 100% of the shares in Westminster Brewery Limited, Rainier Brewing Company of Canada and Silver Spring Brewery Limited. In 1954, it also bought Victoria Phoenix (1920) Ltd. and shortly afterwards changed its name to Lucky Lager Breweries (1954) Ltd. The company changed its name again, to Lucky Lager Breweries Limited, in 1957. Labatt assumed control on July 1, 1958. In 1967, the company changed its name again, to Labatt Breweries of British Columbia Limited. In 1978, this company absorbed parts of Columbia Brewing Company Limited, while other parts of the latter became Columbia Brewing (1978) Ltd. In 1979, Labatt Breweries of British Columbia Ltd. amalgamated into Labatt Brewing Company Limited.
