The Canadian Olympic Committee (C.O.C.) was founded in 1909, a separate division of the Amateur Athletic Union of Canada; it was once known as the Central Olympic Committee. That same year, the International Olympic Committee recognized the C.O.C. as Canada's official Olympic body. The C.O.C. was officially declared independent from the A.A.U. of C. in 1949. The Canadian Olympic Committee helps promote Canadian locations as future Olympic venues, and provides financial and leadership support to Canadian Olympic athletes.

Scope and content
This series documents the administration and operation of the Canadian Olympic Association [Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) as of 2002] and its Board and Executive Committee, as well as James Worrall's personal involvement, including his tenure as President from 1961 to 1968. It comprises extensive Board and committee meeting records, including notes, minutes, agendas and related material; COA Congress, annual meeting and associated workshop documents; the constitution and by-laws; strategic plans, management and organizational reports; budgets, financial statements and expense reports; various committee reports and minutes; communications, press releases and media coverage; and internal and external memoranda and correspondence. Series also includes records relating to Olympic-related programs and activities, including the Olympic Games and team with Chef de Mission reports, the Junior Olympic program, the fundraising arm of the COA: the Olympic Trust, and Olympic Academy. Also included are records on specific issues, such as drug use and the Commission of Inquiry into the Use of Drugs and Banned Practices Intended to Increase Athletic Performance (the Dubin Commission).
