The majority of the readings are from the Old Testament. In 1930, the Bible readings were read to students in Grades I-VIII during closing exercises. In 1943, religious instruction was offered in one period per week during the last period of the day in certain schools. By 1956, the Bible readings could also be used at the opening of school.
