Scope and content
Series consists of records related to the dedication ceremony and date stone ceremony of the D.B. Weldon Library. Due to multiple delays in the completion of the building, a dedication ceremony, presided over by honourary degree recipient Charles Percy Snow, was held for the D.B. Weldon Library on October 29, 1971. Full-occupancy of the building would not take place for almost another year. On November 30, 1972 a commemorative date stone was laid in honour of the new library, in lieu of an official opening ceremony. The series includes correspondence between Director of Libraries Robert E. Lee, University President D.C. Williams, University Vice-President R.J. Rossitter, C.P. Snow, and representatives from the Weldon Family. Records related to the planning of the dedication ceremony and commemorative date stone ceremony, such as guest lists, seating plans, programs, invitations and RSVPs are also included. The series also features drafts of speeches given by Robert E. Lee and the signed guestbook from the dedication. News clippings from Western News and The Gazette and graphic material, including photographs and colour slides are also included.
