Review of Educational Policies in Canada

Item is a six volume report coordinated by a Council of Education Ministers in co-operation with the Federal Government. The six volumes: Forward & Introduction, Government of Canada, Western Region, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Region were to acquaint others with educational development in Canada and to assist the educational authorities in planning more effectively for the future. Most include a descriptions of education within the region, including trends, goals, structure and post-secondary institutions. The Government of Canada Report addresses the Federal Government's role in education.

Series consists of files created by A. George Bayly, which include correspondence, memoranda, notices and general information to and from Bayly. Most material relates to Elementary curriculum, curriculum development, testing and reading. Bayly’s titles for this period were as follows: Elementary Supervisor or Supervisor, Elementary Education (1946-47, 1947-48), Director of Elementary Education (1948-49 to Oct 1955), and Assistant Superintendent, Elementary Education (beginning 01 Oct 1955).

Evaluation of the Perspectives for Living Program

Item is a report which evaluates the Perspectives for Living Program within Edmonton Public Schools. The data upon which the report is based was gathered using a survey. The survey, summary of the information and conclusions are included. The contents of the report cover the 1968-1973 period.

Planning and Accommodation

Administration Files : Vacation School

Item pertains to the Vacation School, a program at Victoria High School to prepare grade XI students for supplemental examinations. Examinations were conducted by the Department of Education and the University of Alberta. The Vacation School was aimed at students who failed their June examinations but others took the summer courses as well. File includes correspondence, planning information and reports from teachers.

Education Committee Minutes

Series consists of the minutes of the Edmonton Public Schools Education Committee, made up of Trustees, School Board officials and representatives from the ATA and other unions and a representative from the Home and School Association. The committee addressed issues affecting the delivery of education including new courses, changes in programs and required educational materials. The minutes are signed by the secretary.

Series consists of photocopies of the minutes of the Edmonton Public Schools Education Committee and related memorandums, speeches and reports. The committee was made up of Edmonton Public Schools trustees and school officials. Administrative personnel were frequently at meetings.

Item is a catalogue listing both curriculum materials developed by Edmonton Public Schools and curriculum guides, supplements and replacement sheets published by the Department of Education. For the curriculum materials, each entry includes the subject, grade level, title and description, and distributor. For the curriculum guides, each entry includes a catalogue number and description.

Happy Birthday Canada

Item is a souvenir booklet for children in Grades I-III in Edmonton Public Schools and commemorates Canada’s Centennial. It provides historical highlights from 1867 to 1967 with an emphasis on Edmonton. It was designed and printed by the Jasper Place Composite High School Graphic Arts Classes.
