Records contain numerous memoranda - several confidential - on the proceedings of the Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian, Cultural) of the General Assembly, where Article 1 of the UN Charter (self-determination) was the subject of great debate. Records include the text of the Secretary-General's address to the Third Committee in October 1955 as well as confidential memoranda on the reactions of members of the Committee. Also included are recommendations of the Commission on Human Rights concerning self-determination.
