1935-1936: Member of the Royal Commission on the Private Manufacture of and Trading in Arms;
1937: Went with the Parliamentary Commission to observe the Spanish War;
1938- 39: Member of the West Indies Royal Commission,
Married Col. C.J.M. Thornhill, CMG, DSO, (1939);
1939- 1946: Region's Adviser, Ministry of Information (visiting and reporting on the conditions in the bombed cities);
