Series consists of records relating to Walter Thomspon's job with the OPA. The OPA was an American agency that was established in the Office for Emergency Management in 1941. It designated maximum prices for commodities in addition to rationing rare commodities in an effort to stabilize prices. Included are Canada Gazette and other newspaper clippings, reports produced by or for OPA staff members including a report on service trades price control by Thompson, correspondence relating to Thompson's role in the OPA, and OPA personnel documents. Also included are a small amount of documents from the Canada Wartime Prices and Trade Board. This board was established in 1939 by Prime Minister Mackenzie King. Its function, like the OPA, was to ensure commodity prices stayed stable and remained in sufficient supply.
