On April 15, 1922, Lord Byng of Vimy, Governor General of Canada, turned the sod for the Arts Building (University College). The ceremony took place on what is now Elgin Drive in front of the present Allyn and Betty Taylor Library. A revised campus plan by land planner Thomas Adam relocated the building to its present site.
