In 1948 a legacy from former university bursar William Waugh enabled construction of a small science building adjacent to the recently completed Collip Medical Research Laboratory. Eight years later the Waugh Botanical Building became the first stone structure on campus to be demolished to make way for the Biological and Geological Sciences Building and the new greenhouses.
