Scope and content

Convocation Hall was the architectural masterpiece of the university. Designed to hold the annual convocation ceremonies it became the centre of major social events. The first convocation was held in October 1924, (top photo) but less than ten years later the facility was too small to accommodate the increasing numbers of student graduates and the ceremony was moved to JW Little Stadium. The hall remained an important social center and hosted gatherings such as the annual "Last Chance Dance" for the graduating class. Following a major restoration in 2001 the hall was renamed Conron Hall in recognition of a generous lead donation from the Conron Family in memory of Brandon Conron a former professor and chair of the Board of Governors.
