On January 21, 1957 a random car check was organized on campus to spot cars parking without a permit. Even though the permits were issued free of charge many students, staff and faculty did not bother to obtain them. Students were particularly singled out for improperly parking in Faculty and Staff areas. A first offence would usually merit a warning. Second offenders were given a $2 fine and if further infractions were recorded a maximum fine of $12 was followed by a parking ban on campus.
