Angela Armitt is perhaps best remembered for her outstanding leadership as director of Western’s Summer School and Extension Department. From 1964-76 the Department had doubled in size and finally became the Faculty of Part time and Continuing Education. Following her initial appointment to Western as an instructor in 1954 she became widely known and recognized in the community as an energetic and talented square dance caller. Pictured in her ‘calling outfit’ she was often accompanied by the hot piano beat of Mrs. Ben Leigh.
