In all likelihood, 1970 was a ‘turning point’ for the university regarding Orientation and Registration. Improved methods of registering students began to reduce long line-ups and waiting periods. As the decade wore on technology and the introduction of computing systems further simplified the process. As well, a more benevolent attitude towards incoming first-year students began to emerge. Says orientation committee member Brenda Steel: "It is more acclimatization for the students through seminars, academic classes and debates this year. We are trying to inform rather than make fun of new students. We are hoping to end hazing."
