Two trailers equipped with radio listening devices were employed by the Physics Department to receive signals from stations in Winnipeg and Greenwood, N.S. Originating from orbiting satellites, the signals were used to study the ionosphere and improvement in security systems. One trailer was located at the north end of the campus and the other about ten miles west of London. Professor P. A. Forsyth head of the Physics Department, Professor G. F. Lyon and several graduate students led the research. Student Delbert Rice is shown checking instruments inside the campus trailer.
