When Dean of Medicine George Edward Hall became Western’s fourth President in 1947 he began a long-term program to move the Faculty of Medicine from its South Street building onto the campus. The new Dean of Medicine, Dr. James Bertram Collip was given a new building originally built a year earlier for the Department of Zoology (seen at the left) to alleviate overcrowding in the Physics Building. The structure was enlarged with the addition of a second floor and side wing. It became known as the Collip Medical Research Laboratory and was occupied by the Department of Medical Research until 1965, two years after Dr Collip’s death.
