The stunning defeat of the provincial conservative government in 1919 led to a one-term coalition by the UFO party (United Farmers of Ontario). Although only premier for one three year term, Ernest Drury made major changes to the way universities were funded. Only the University of Toronto had regularly received government funds but he extended that to other provincial universities. Western received one million dollars for new buildings. While his former rival, Sir Adam Beck, congratulated participating in the cornerstone lying of University College, Drury, left, right, who had lost his provincial seat during the Drury sweep.
