For several years following the Second World War there were constant complaints about the condition of the practice football field. It was somewhat uneven and the east end contained several gullies. In 1954 the problem was solved by the construction of Stevenson Hall. The soil excavated for the footings was dumped along the field and heavy equipment was used to produce the flat expanse that exists today.
