In March 1975, two students Walley Klein and Alexandria Stevenson presented a petition to President D. C. Williams signed by more than 2600 students, faculty and staff. It called for enforcement of campus no smoking regulations. Williams, an ex smoker himself, agreed that existing regulations were usually ignored. The last building on campus to have a smoking area was the Grad Club in the basement of Middlesex College. It went smoke-free in January 2003.
