For several years following World War 2, stonemasons were in sort supply. Piggott Construction, behind schedule to complete Thames Hall in 1948, flew several stonemasons to the job site directly from Scotland. L-r George King, William Cowie, Norman Murray and Sid Hind (with Hammer). This was perhaps where the folklore that ‘Scottish masons built the University’ originated.
