Scope and content
London contractor John Putherbough supervised the construction of the Cronyn Memorial Observatory during the winter of 1939. A gift from Amelia Cronyn in memory of her husband Hume Cronyn, it was the second astronomical observatory on any Canadian university campus. It would take another 15 years however before Western hired its first full time astronomer, William Wehlau.
