Recommendations for Small Indoor Tracks in Edmonton Public Schools : A Graduation Essay / John R. Dahmer

Item is a report submitted to the University of Alberta School of Physical Education to fulfill the requirements of the Bachelor of Physical Education degree. Its purpose was to calculate a theoretical running path for tracks of various dimensions, to design suitable tracks, and to compare running times on these tracks. Schools within Edmonton Public Schools were the subject of study.

The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of Movement Education and Traditional Physical Education on the kinesthetic perception of elementary school children, and to compare the kinesthetic perception of boys and girls in the selected age groups. The test subjects were students within Edmonton Public Schools.

Gross Motor Performance and Motor Learning of Educable Mentally Retarded Boys : A Preliminary Report / Patricia L. Austin

Item is report funded by the Department of National Health and Welfare, Fitness and Amateur Sport and by the University of Alberta. The subjects were boys in the Intermediate Opportunity Classes of Edmonton Public Schools. The study provides information on the physical fitness and gross motor ability of the subjects. It also compares two structured physical education programs.

Administration Files : Flag Salute

Item relates to the saluting of the flag in schools during WW II and immediately afterwards. In January 1940, the Board approved the ceremony of saluting and pledging to the flag. The file contains correspondence relating to the suspension of students who refused to salute the flag. Other correspondence is from the RCMP, the Deputy Attorney General, Office of the City Solicitor and the Coleman School District. A list of students who were suspended is included.

4-6 Divided School Year Evaluation

Item is a report which presents surveys and conclusions pertaining to the high school year being divided into four and six month semesters. Prior to the evaluations, the four and six month semester system was tried in Bonnie Doon, Harry Ainlay and Victoria Composite High Schools.
