In 1956 ECOSOC Resolution 624 B (XXII) called upon member states and specialized agencies to transmit to the Secretariat every three years a report on human rights. The Division of Human Rights was given the task of preparing a brief summary of the reports on a topical basis. These records consist of material received from governments transmitting information on developments and progress achieved in the field of human rights in response to a request from the Secretary-General dated 10.1956. They include correspondence within the Division regarding the use of Yearbook material to supplement periodic reporting received from governments.
