The Committee on the right of everyone to be free from arbitrary arrest, detention and exile was established by the Commission on Human Rights under resolution II of the 12th Session to make a study of the right of everyone to be free from arbitrary arrest, detention and exile. The subject of the study was approved by ECOSOC in its resolution 624 B II (XXII). As an appropriate basis for the work of the committee, monographs on the status of the right in all States Members of the UN and of the specialized agencies were prepared. By early 1961, the Division had assisted in the preparation of 80 country monograms for examination and review by the committee members.
The records consist of correspondence with members of the committee and include a monograph for Congo (Brazzaville).
