Series contains documents generated by Department of Education Inspectors. Pre-1905, Inspectors are from the Government of the North-West Territories and post-1905 from the Alberta Provincial Government. Documents record the Inspectors' evaluation of schools, classrooms, school grounds, equipment, pupils and teachers within Edmonton School District No. 7.

Item is the Annual Report of the Department of Research and Evaluation in the form of a memorandum to Superintendent M. A. Strembitsky from Assistant Superintendent, Research and Evaluation, Dr. H. Mosychuk. It outlines the functions of the department and lists research and evaluation projects underway during the 1975-76 school year. Attached is a book entitled, Directory of Education Studies in Canada, 1974-75.

It examines changes that would need to be made for the Community School concept to be successfully implemented, and it makes recommendations.

Sinking Fund Trustees Committee Minutes

Series consists of the minutes from the Sinking Fund Committee, made up of trustees of Edmonton Public Schools. The committee met for the purpose of purchasing and selling bonds and securities to build up the sinking fund and pay off the debenture debt. The committee ended on 07 Jan 1947 when the debenture debt was paid off.

Expenditures of Canadian Schools

Item pertains to the collecting and analyzing of financial data from several school boards including: correspondence and completed questionnaires from various Canadian school boards, a chart showing the cost per capita for 1923 on the basis of school attendance for several Canadian cities as well as Los Angeles, Seattle and Spokane, a second chart comparing the education cost per capita for 1922 of several Canadian cities, a third chart comparing teacher salaries in different Canadian cities as well as Los Angeles, Seattle and Spokane, and a diagram comparing the cost of public schools across the Canadian provinces. This file was compiled by Sarah Wilson, Edmonton Public Schools Secretary-Treasurer (1921-1925).

The series is arranged into three sub-series: 84.51.3 Policy Development : Survey of Principals, 84.51.4-7 Policy Development : Advisory Committee which contains agenda, minutes, memoranda and the policies and regulations the committee has agreed to, 84.51.8 Policy Development : Project Booklets and Draft Policies which consists of Advisory Committee notes and a draft policy manual.

Series consists of photocopies of the minutes of the Edmonton Public Schools Education Committee and related memorandums, speeches and reports. The committee was made up of Edmonton Public Schools trustees and school officials. Administrative personnel were frequently at meetings.

Series consists of the minutes of the Edmonton Public Schools Education Committee, made up of Trustees, School Board officials and representatives from the ATA and other unions and a representative from the Home and School Association. The committee addressed issues affecting the delivery of education including new courses, changes in programs and required educational materials. The minutes are signed by the secretary.

Inner City Schools

Item consists of reports, minutes and research produced by the Committee on Education in Older Areas of the City. This committee was made up of senior officials in Edmonton Public Schools. It investigated problems associated with educating children in inner city schools and addressed future city development which would affect inner city schools.

Item is the Budget for the 1982 - 83 school year. It is divided into Central Service Budgets and School Budgets. Central Service Budgets include Budgets for the Board of Trustees and Superintendent, Instructional Services Division, School Support Services Division, and Planning and Development Division. These are further divided into departments. School Budgets are divided into six groups of schools (A - F).

School Based Budget : Pilot Project Files

These files were created by Alan E. Parry, System Planner, whose position reported to the Superintendent & Secretary Treasurer at the time of the pilot project. Series consists of files pertaining to the development of budget decentralizing known as School Based Budget. The files and responsibility for School Based Budget moved with Parry when he transferred to Associate Superintendent Planning & Development Services in 1979-80. By 1980-81 School Based Budget was implemented district-wide.

Item consists of two identical cerlox bound copies of the Edmonton Public Schools 1961 budget. It includes both capital and current revenue and expenditures. It was submitted by the Superintendent of Schools and the Secretary-Treasurer.

The survey was initiated in 1979 by Superintendent Strembitsky as a tool to monitor principals in the newly implemented district wide School Based Budgeting. The survey director was Dr. Mosychuk, Monitoring and Assessment Services.

Item consists of two identical reports. They include the philosophy, educational accomplishments, and future goals of Edmonton Public Schools. They also include a ranking of goals by principals and a summary of 1970-71 activities and accomplishments. The final draft of this report became the 1970-71 Annual Report.
