Informal Committee Minutes

Item is the minutes of the Informal Committee, made up of Edmonton Public School Trustees and School Board Officials. The Superintendent of Schools attended most Informal Committee meetings. A variety of issues about school sites, employment and student concerns were discussed, some reflecting wartime circumstances.

Directory of Pupils

Series consists of a single sheet for every class, in every school, per school year. Early years list boys and girls on separate sheets. High Schools are missing from 1964-65. Forms record school, date, teacher, students, each student’s address, birth date, grade, religion and residency status. Information was used by the finance/revenue area to calculate the annual education grant submission to Alberta Education. The lists then served as a directory of students, for the district, for the school year.

Series consists of information about the Advanced Placement (AP) Program gathered by Trustee Shirley E. Forbes. General information, newsletters and examinations are included and relate to the AP subjects of Art, Biology, Chemistry, Classics, English, French, History, Mathematics and Physics. The Advanced Placement program was first offered in Edmonton Public Schools in 1991.

Hard of Hearing

Item consists of correspondence to and from the Superintendent about the establishment of a Hard of Hearing Class. Surveys from principals, reports about equipment, correspondence with other school districts and with teacher training colleges are included.

Abstract From School Register

Item consists of class lists for Grades I to VI and Junior Opportunity at Canora School. Each list includes the names of students, their ages, and the number of days they attended each month of 1967-1968. Each list was completed by the classroom teacher. The number of days the teacher was absent is recorded on the back of each list.

Secondary Education and Guidance Files : Mimeographed Material

Item consists of mimeographed documents including information about juvenile delinquents and exceptional children, information about programs of study in High School and reports from Counselling Services. Examples of employers seeking Gr. XII graduates for work are also included. The files were maintained by G. R. Conquest and M. J. V. Downey.

Educating Gifted Students in the Edmonton Public School System

Item is a report prepared for the Edmonton Public School Board by the Advisory Committee on Education of the Gifted. Item also includes an accompanying letter from the Deputy Superintendent of Schools. The Advisory Committee was made up of Edmonton Public Schools employees who presented information and recommendations through the report.

Hardisty Junior High History of Music Department 1963 - 1969

Item is a scrapbook pertaining to the music program at Hardisty School. It includes newsletters, programmes, adjudication reports from the Alberta Musical Competition Festival, posters, newspaper clippings, award ribbons, lists of students and notices to parents. Item is a handbook which describes the computerized services utilized by the Pupil Records System. It outlines the procedures and documents to be used by the schools to provide information for the Pupil Records System. The handbook pertains to the Pupil Records System, the Student Registration System, the Student Scheduling System and the Progress Reporting Sub-System. This handbook replaces a previous one.

Corporal Punishment and Substitute Teacher Record

Item consists of a notebook and a memorandum. The notebook contains Bennett School records of student punishments ca. 1949-1956, and substitute teachers ca.1954-1955 - 1970-1971. The memorandum is dated August 1, 1969 and is from J.C. McCall to all Principals requesting assessments of substitute teachers.

Item originated in Bennett School and consists of a general list of supplies to be handed out, a tally of supplies given to individual pupils in Grades II, III and IV in September 1915, and the names of the students who received primers in January 1915.
