The sub-sub-series consists of documents concerning company governance. John Labatt Limited bought the brewing assets of Halifax-based Oland and Son Limited on June 1, 1971. Originally incorporated as Olands Nova Scotia Brewery Limited on May 28, 1971, the name of this new subsidiary was changed to Oland’s Breweries (1971) Limited by federal letters patent on July 12, 1971. On July 24, 1978, the name changed once again, to become Oland Breweries Limited / Les Brasseries Oland Limitée.
A board of directors oversaw operations. At their meeting of August 17, 1973, they established an advisory board of residents from New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Thereafter, the advisory board of the New Brunswick/PEI Division held occasional board meetings of its own. The board of directors meeting of August 30, 1977 appointed an additional advisory board to oversee the Nova Scotia division. From 1979 to 1982, the Oland advisory boards occasionally held joint meetings with the advisory board of Labatt Breweries of Newfoundland Limited.

Westminster Brewery Limited was incorporated in the province of British Columbia on December 31, 1915. It operated in New Westminster, B.C., until Coast Breweries Ltd. bought it in 1928.

Labatt incorporated Keiths Brewery Limited by federal letters patent on May 28, 1971. The company held annual meetings of its shareholders and board of directors, but substantive operations were overseen from elsewhere. Labatt officially dissolved the company on January 16, 1984.

This company was formed in 1893 from the merger of Victoria Brewing and Ice Company Limited and Phoenix Brewery, both located in Victoria, British Columbia. Coast Breweries Limited acquired this company in 1954.
The sub-sub-series consists of records pertaining to Labatt Breweries of British Columbia. The core of this company formed with the incorporation of Coast Breweries Limited under British Columbia’s Companies Act on April 13, 1921. This company then purchased Westminster Brewery, Rainier Brewing Company of Canada, and Silver Springs Brewery, incorporating under letters patent from the Secretary of State of Canada on June 8, 1928. After absorbing the Victoria Phoenix Brewing Company (1920) Limited in 1954, Coast became Lucky Lager Breweries (1954) Limited on December 15, 1954. On November 25, 1957, it changed its name to Lucky Lager Breweries Limited. It should be noted that this company was a different one from the Lucky Lager Breweries Limited that operated between 1980 and 1988. John Labatt Limited assumed control of it on July 1, 1958. On May 24, 1967, it changed its name again, this time to Labatt Breweries of British Columbia Limited (federal corporation number 049100-4). In 1978, this company absorbed parts of Columbia Brewing Company Limited, keeping the name Labatt Breweries of British Columbia Limited, but becoming a new legal entity under federal corporation number 076608-9. The amalgamated company was further amalgamated into Labatt Brewing Company on November 1, 1979.

On June 15, 1971, Olands New Brunswick Brewery Limited resolved to purchase the land and buildings formerly owned by Olands Brewery Limited in Saint John New Brunswick. Thereafter, it did not have a substantive role in brewing operations. On July 24, 1978, the company obtained a certificate of continuance in order to officially add the name La Brasserie Oland Nouveau Brunswick Limitée to their name. Olands New Brunswick Brewery Limited re-amalgamated with Oland Breweries Limited on November 1, 1979.

The company was incorporated under British Columbia’s Companies Act on February 10, 1950, under the name Interior Holdings Limited, but changed its name to Interior Breweries Limited on June 1 of the same year. It changed its name again, to Columbia Brewing Company Limited, on March 22, 1972. In 1978, Labatt Breweries of British Columbia Limited purchased the company, absorbing some of its assets, and creating Columbia Brewing (1978) Limited to manage the others. The latter company was dissolved on November 10, 1988.
